Stephen Harrison

Stephen Harrison is a visual artist of long standing based in Murrumbateman, NSW. His work encompasses sculpture, drawing, painting, installation, photography and film. He holds a Master of Visual Art (Sculpture) from the Australian National University School of Art. Stephen has held 28 solo exhibitions and exhibited in 53 group exhibitions in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Australian rural areas, and internationally in Manila, Paris, London and Prague. His works are held in the collections of the Australian National University, Canberra Museum and Gallery, National Library of Australia and ACT Legislative Assembly, Phoenix Pub, Canberra, and several private collections.

Stephen has been a finalist in many sculpture events, including Sculpture by the Sea (Bondi and Cottesloe), Sculpture on the Edge (Bermagui), Sculpture@Scenic World, Sculpture in the Paddock (Yass), Sculpture in the Garden (Mudgee), Sculpture in the Valley (Kangaroo Valley), Hidden Rookwood Sculpture and Sculpture Encounters. He was the Main Prize winner in Sculpture in the Valley (indoor) and Sculpture in the Paddock.

A good deal of Stephen’s recent work has focused on the animal world, often with a focus on the threat of extinction. In 2015 he was selected by Wildlife and Botanical Artists Inc. as an Artist in Residence at the Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary and Jerrabomberra Wetlands Nature Reserve where his work drew attention to endangered and threatened species programs within these two unique endangered Australian landscapes.
