Danielle Lovatt
Biography
Danielle Lovatt is an emerging artist with a long career as a Secondary School Visual Arts
teacher. She works across the forms of painting and ceramics and lives in Lismore on
Bundjalung Country.
Her paintings focus on still life, interiors and garden spaces as subject matter. A constant in the
works is the presence of subjective colour and decorative patterns inspired by the exotic.
Danielle’s still life images are closely observed yet escapist; reflections of a real and imagined
day to day, travels abroad and a celebration of the ordinary. There is often a reference to the
symbolism of the season and imagery appropriated from the art of other cultures and times. Her
aim is to capture the essence or energy that exists within a space and the cerebral and emotive
connections that arise from that documentation.
Danielle’s hand built ceramic forms are distinctive from her paintings as direct observation is
replaced by the purely imagined; clay surfaces full of whimsy and allusions to historical
conventions in ceramics and the play of the oriental meeting the occidental.
Danielle holds a Diploma of Creative Arts, a Bachelor of Arts (Visual) a Graduate Diploma of
Education and a Diploma of Art Therapy.
Her work is found in private collections nationally and internationally.
