Dan Lorrimer

In the years since Robbie left us I often find myself thinking of him and my time working at
F!NK. As the years have passed, I’ve come to realise what a lasting impact those years had
on my life. Robbie was always keen to share creatively and technically and also to form
friendships with those working under him. It was always a thrill to get a wink and smile of
approval from him both at F!NK and also when developing my own work. I am honoured and
grateful to be included in this exhibition. My piece Reformed Pinnacles is based on, and
uses several of, the Single Stem Vase F!NK products. When thinking about what I could
create using this product, I was struck by how refined and elegant the Single Stem vase form
is, and wondered what could I possibly make that could build on this already perfect object.
Rather than attempting to add to or compete with an already complete form, I chose to roughen things up by intuitively breaking the form up into segments and then reforming them in to precarious pinnacle like objects. I chose to
finish the forms with an iron rust finish further subverting the dichotomy of refinement.
Exchanging smooth for rough, stable for unbalanced, anodised for uncontrolled oxidisation.
