Robert Foster’s creativity and skill as a metalsmith were, of course, unparalleled, but it was
his unrelenting drive as a maker that, for me, was the true inspiration. Beyond his distinct
individuality and technical prowess, the most enduring influence Robbie had on me was his
fearlessness. If I am ever struck by the temptation to give up, recalling Robbie’s grit is the
antidote. The Covert Kimonos are an expression of my own phototaxis — an attraction to
light that Robert and I both shared. One hundred hand-pierced silver moths hide within the
folds
of two F!NK Kimonos. As if drawn to the light, they form a flutter of secret ornaments (each
one wearable) symbolising the spirits of both the living and deceased
