Granny bonnets double happiness

19 x 19.5 cmWatercolour and Gouache on Arches paper
My mother grew Granny bonnets
down the side of our house in
Auckland. I loved the multiple trumpet
florets with little curls at the end and
the variety of beautiful colours they
came in.
I don’t see them very often in Sydney
so when I do, they are very special.
A little blue bird sits on a teacup with
the characters for ‘double happiness’
on it – the symbol used in Chinese
wedding celebrations.
