ANCIENT RYTHM
A solo exhibition
November 14 2024
Artifacts are time capsules that unlock the secrets of the past, bridging the gap between past and present and inviting us to experience the lives of those who shaped history. 'Ancient Rhythm' revives the stories of the past by liberating relics from their glass encasements and museum confines, bringing them into the public sphere for all to enjoy. Each painting in this series finds its roots in a specific ancient vessel or artifact and draws inspiration from the patterns that dance across their surfaces. As a cohesive body of work, these pieces pulsate with a shared rhythm, celebrating our universal connection through art and expression.
Melody’s artistic journey began with a dual passion for archaeology and art. Rather than choosing between the two, she merged them, allowing her to continue exploring ancient history while expressing her creativity through art. After graduating from the University of Newcastle with a degree in Graphic Design in 2022 she joined Onwards Gallery as a resident artist. Since then, Melody has sold her work both regionally and internationally and has exhibited in many group exhibitions, most recently in the Museum of Art and Culture Lake Macquarie.
Based in Newcastle, Melody shares her passion for art with a wide audience, teaching workshops to both children and adults, with the goal of inspiring creativity and cultivating a love for art. She has also expanded her practice to include large-scale mural painting, most notably a 15-meter mural on the hoarding of the Newcastle Heritage Post Office. Additionally, Melody has explored the realm of wearable art, collaborating with jewellery designer Linzy Whiteley on a collection of hand-painted earrings.
