Kean Onn See

Kean Onn See

  • Biography

Kean Onn See creates paintings on carved woodblocks. He begins his painting on paper. The image is then transferred and carved on woodblock before it is painted.
It is a laborious creative process. And he loves it.

Kean Onn discovered his love of painting in his early 30’s by accident after receiving a gift to attend a four day oil painting class at the University of NSW College Of Fine Arts in Sydney, Australia.

Primarily self-taught, he has since pursued this interest during his spare time, while working full-time in the digital industry.

Over the years, he has experimented with different media and genres before finally adopting painting on carved woodblock as his preferred medium.

In 2016, humbled and driven by the positive response of a small group exhibition, he continued to expand his skills by exploring new tools and painting techniques to streamline the complex production process, while tackling more complex subjects.

Kean Onn was a selected finalist in the 2018 Mosman Art Prize, judged by the acclaimed Cressida Campbell.

Kean Onn's first solo exhibition was held shortly after at Art2muse gallery in January 2019. He is preparing for his second exhibition.

Kean Onn See was born in Malaysia and now lives and works in Sydney, Australia.
