Gabrielle Jones
Biography
Gabrielle Jones is an Australian abstract artist whose work mines art historical references in a style influenced by Gestural Abstraction. Her process glories in the tactility of surfaces and interwoven layers, starting with random marks and forms, followed by a process of “letting go” to enter into a dialogue with, and adventure in, the mediums she uses -a call and answer of marks, colours, form and rhythm. She utilises these elemental, tactile self-expressive processes in direct opposition to technologically based media, to seek new forms that will ultimately carry a very human, emotional weight.
In this way, Jones explores -in the sensual as well as psychological sphere - liminal states and the tensions engendered by opposites: movement and stillness; isolation and engulfment; the organic and the constructed, the personal and the global.
Her work seduces and invites illusions where figuration and abstraction exchange and engage in ways that transport the mind from external reality to an internal one, to moments beyond language.
