In the digital age, we are more connected than ever, yet there is a pervasive sense of disconnection. A paradox of constant connectivity leading to isolation and the quest for genuine human connection amidst a sea of screens.

As self-presentation becomes increasingly curated and filtered through the lens of technology, questions of authenticity and identity emerge. Contemporary society is marked by relentless connectivity and the constant pursuit of self-improvement. In our pursuit of becoming, we often overlook the process of unbecoming.

In an era of technological acceleration, we stand at the intersection of transformation, vulnerability, and overwhelm — connected yet profoundly isolated.

Fernanda Pedroso is a Canberra-based photographer originally from Brazil. She moved to Australia in 2020 and, at the age of 40, transitioned from a 20-year career in advertising to photography. Her conceptual work, shaped by personal experiences and cultural diversity, explores social issues through staged and emotive imagery. Fernanda’s photography has gained international recognition, including being named Australasia’s Top Emerging Photographer in 2024.
