A Sydney (Australia) based artist who studied at the College of Fine Arts (UNSW), Erin cut short an established international textile design career in an attempt to satisfy her yearning for creative practice with less emphasis on commercial priorities.
Erin’s commercial art background is evident in my instinctual use of colour and composition that is both spontaneous and deeply introspective. Exploring notions of transience, perception and (dis)connection, natural landscapes often feature as a point of departure in her distinctly emotive practice.
Born on Cammeraygal country (Sydney, Australia) in 1978, Erin is grateful to live and work on Bidjigal country in the beachside suburb of Coogee with her son Leo, feline Bowie and glimpses of the sea. From 2004 to 2014 Erin was a commercial textile designer with clients in Australia, New Zealand, UK and the US, she continued work as an illustrator and print-based graphic designer until 2018.
Erin takes naming her work very seriously and often borrows from poets Sylvia Plath and Edward Estlin (e e) Cummings. Their words capture the spirit of experimentation, wonder and whimsy Erin’s painting wrangles with, as with each of these incredible humans, explore the darkest depths of our being.
